What to Know About the Scan
Low-dose CT screening is the only recommended screening test for lung cancer.
The low-dose CT scan takes only 10-15 minutes with no injections or fasting required.
Uses significantly less radiation than a standard CT scan - equivalent to about 6 months of natural background radiation.
Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurers cover annual screening for eligible individuals at no cost to you.
Who Should Get Screened?
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends annual lung cancer screening for adults who meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Age 50-80 years old
- 20 pack-year smoking history (e.g., 1 pack/day for 20 years or 2 packs/day for 10 years)
- Currently smoke OR quit within the past 15 years
